A Schmear and a Spiel

  • Old Stone House & Washington Park 336 3rd Street Brooklyn, NY, 11215 USA (map)

Let Brooklyn Social Media transport you to the Borscht Belt on a Fall Sunday in Park Slope. While fressing on bagels and lox, enjoy Alice Rosenthal’s spiel from Bess and Frima (She Writes Press, August 21, 2018). Her new spellbinding novel, set in the Catskills and the Bronx in the years before and after World War II, is a fearless examination of female friendship, politics and sexuality, courtship and marriage, artistic desire and domestic duty.

Alice’s originally conceived title for her novel was “Thomas Jefferson Didn’t Sleep Here.” So it’s both ironic and fitting that this event will take place in the Revolutionary War-era Old Stone House.

As an added bonus, radio host and progressive kibitzer Katie Halper will entertain us with her schtick, and introduce Alice.

As in the iconic commercial – “You don’t have to be Jewish to love Levy’s Real Jewish Rye,” this event will be relished by all.

$45 Admission includes a bagels and lox brunch with unlimited mimosas and a copy of Bess and Frima. Purchase tickets here.
